Position: Billing Assistant

Reports to: Billing Manager

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Billing Manager, the billing assistant is responsible for entering all accounts receivable payments received via mail and all insurance claim processing and follow up

West County Health Centers, Inc. is seeking an experienced Billing Assistant to join the team of our dynamic community health center organization. This position is an excellent opportunity to work in a growing community health center. Position is full time with excellent compensation and benefits including health, dental, and 403b retirement program.

We serve a diverse population of adults, children and families, which includes persons with HIV and chronic physical and mental illness.

Duties:

1. Daily payment entry of all payments received by mail or electronically to proper patient accounts

2. Posting of charges as directed by billing manager

3. Balance payments from trial report to daily payment log prior to posting

4. Performing adjusting credit entries as directed by billing manager

5. Review and transfer of charges and allowances from one bill type as required by insurance EOB

6. Preparation of all insurance claims including electronic transmission claims

7. Supplemental billing to third party carriers as payment is received from primary payer

8. Statement billing to all private pay patients monthly

9. Follow-up on past due accounts, inquiry calls to insurance carriers and collection calls

10. Review daily patient insurance and demographic information for accuracy

11. Review of A/R with billing manager

12. Reconcile daily cash sheets and apply all patient payments

13. Close AR System monthly including preparation of financial & statistical reports as assigned

14. Other duties as assigned or requested

Minimum Requirements:

• One year experience in medical billing

• Computer literacy and familiarity with office machines such as fax, copier, calculator

• Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team

• Ability to relate well to varied client base

• Must have excellent written and oral skills, strong organizational and analytical skills.

• Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job

• Basic office and equipment safety knowledge and practice

• Must have ability to manage priorities and workflow, work independently with little or no supervision.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to move freely about the office and carry light loads (up to 25 pounds)

• Prolonged standing and occasional sitting required.

• Ability to work with office equipment, including computers, for long periods of time

Salary/Benefits: Compensation depends on experience. May be eligible for health, dental, 403(b) retirement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
